Shawn Peter Raul Mendes (born August 8, 1998) is a Canadian singer, songwriter, and guitarist. He gained a following in 2013 when he began posting song covers on the video-sharing platform Vine. Mendes signed a record deal with Island Records in 2014 and released his debut single, “Life of the Party,” which peaked at number 24 on the Billboard 100. His debut studio album, Handwritten, was released in 2015 and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200.
Mendes is known for his pop and acoustic music, often writing his own songs. He has won numerous awards, including multiple Grammy Award nominations and a Latin Grammy Award.
